1.6 l THP S&S PETROL ENGINE

To make the most of the chassis, the Peugeot 308 GTi by Peugeot Sport contain the 1.6L THP S&S (Stop&Start) petrol engine 270 hp or 250 hp. Drawing on the full expertise of the Peugeot Sport engineers, its 200 kW of power (270 hp verison) and 330 Nm of torque are perfectly regulated, even at high speeds, thanks to the specially designed waste control valve for the turbo. Furthermore, the exhaust manifold is made of steel, and is capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 1,000°C.

State-of-the-art moving components include forged aluminium pistons, strengthened segmentation and connecting rods, polymer-enhanced bearings and reinforced bolts. To ensure consistent performance, the pistons are cooled from below by a double oil spray system.

REINFORCED GEARBOX

To contain the increased torque of up to 330 Nm, the six-speed manual gearbox has been reinforced. The two shafts have been shot-blasted, and the gears subjected to intense carbonitriding. By boosting their carbon and nitrogen content, this thermochemical process has improved the ability of these parts to withstand wear and tear and fatigue. The output axle has also been shortened, to improve acceleration.

Weighing in at a mere 1,205 kg, the 308 GTi by Peugeot Sport boasts an excellent weight/power ratio. It also pulls off the striking feat of generating combined cycle CO2 emissions of just 139 g/km, and averaging an impressive 47.1 mpg in a combined cycle – a record in this sector – 34.9 mpg on an urban cycle and 57.6mpg on an extra urban cycle.
