With its major inventions and numerous successes, PEUGEOT has written many of the finest pages in the history of the automobile. With the new challenges of the 21st century, the PEUGEOT adventure continues.
BEGINNING OF THE PEUGEOT INDUSTRIAL ADVENTURE
The family business was founded in 1810 by Jean-Frédéric and Jean-Pierre II PEUGEOT, during the transformation into a steelworks of the family hydraulic mill located at a place called "Sous-Cratet" in the commune of Hérimoncourt (Doubs). Different branches of the family will launch into very diversified production, but all based on steel (tools, springs, umbrella ribs, corset frames, coffee grinders, timepieces, bicycles, etc.).
PRESENTATION OF THE STEAM TRICYCLE
At the Universal Exhibition in Paris, Armand Peugeot presented the first motor vehicle bearing the PEUGEOT name: a steam tricycle (not marketed), produced with the engineer Léon Serpollet.
LAUNCH 203: FIRST MONOCOQUE CAR
The 203 was the first car produced after the war. It is also the first monocoque model with an engine with a hemispherical cylinder head and V-shaped valves and the first PEUGEOT produced in more than half a million units.
The 404 was designed by Pininfarina. Its angular lines and the increase in glazed surfaces bring modernism and elegance that contrast with the models of the 1950s...
In 1961, the 404 was equipped with the first direct injection engine.
LAUNCH 404: RADICAL NEW STYLE AND EQUIPMENT
Elected car of the year 1969 in Europe, the 504 has the longest career of all PEUGEOT models (3,700,000 units put into circulation until 2006). Designed for a bourgeois clientele, thanks to its endurance, it has also become queen of African and South American tracks.
LANCEMENT 104 : PLUS COURTE BERLINE AU MONDE
The slogan, All PEUGEOT in 3.58 m, recalls that it was the smallest four-door saloon in the world.
LAUNCH 604: FIRST PEUGEOT 6-CYCLINDERS SALOON SINCE 601
With its style and stature, it is adopted by the highest authorities of the State. The first turbo diesel engine marketed in Europe was fitted to the 604.
LAUNCH 205: THE “SACRED NUMBER”
A saving success for PEUGEOT. She became a two-time world rally champion and won two Paris-Dakar races. It will be the best-selling car in France and the most exported French car.
For the second time in its history, PEUGEOT won the European Car of the Year trophy thanks to the 405, its new family car, in 1988.
LAUNCH OF THE 406 COUPE MADE BY PININFARINA
Thanks to its timeless design, it has become a collector's item. It is the first coupe offered with a Diesel engine (2001).
LAUNCH OF THE 206, 7,326,029 PIECES PRODUCED
The 206 was 3 times world rally champion. Its CC version (2000) revived the fashion for “transformable coupes”, initiated by PEUGEOT in 1934.
LAUNCH OF THE 3008
Praised for its style, interior design and services, the new PEUGEOT 3008 was voted Car of the Year 2017 by a jury of 58 European journalists.
It is the first SUV to win an award since the creation of the trophy in 1964 and the fifth PEUGEOT voted Car of the Year after the 308 in 2014, the 307 in 2002, the 405 in 1988 and the 504 in 1969.
The PEUGEOT PARTNER has been elected International Van Of The Year 2019, the fifth PEUGEOT vehicle crowned Van Of The Year since the creation of the trophy in 1992.
Two major and unprecedented innovations caught the eye: the overload indicator for safe loading and Surround Rear Vision which allows camera vision of blind spots.
The PEUGEOT PARTNER is distinguished by the exclusive and world-first adoption in this segment of the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®, offering a new driving experience for greater productivity.
The “International Van Of The Year” award has existed since 1992. The jury is made up of a European panel of 25 independent journalists and magazine editors specializing in light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
The PEUGEOT 208 was voted car of the year 2020 by 60 automotive expert journalists from 23 European countries. The jury praised its engine range, which gives customers the freedom to choose between electric, petrol or diesel. The jurors also praised the audacity of the design and technology of the PEUGEOT 208, the 6th PEUGEOT titled Car of the Year.
With 6 titles, PEUGEOT joins the top 3 of the most successful brands on the list of cars of the year. This prestigious trophy is in addition to the 12 international awards already received by the PEUGEOT 208.
